Z-A in nanotechnology “It was absolutely imperative that we have the most advanced and resilient gas detection technology in place. Honeywell has helped us to develop a fantastic system which enables us to effectively harness the materials we need to keep pushing the boundaries of science.” Any company utilizing processes that are likely to output toxic gases runs the risk of loss of productivity. Industries such as semi-conductor manufacture, brewing and food processing, paint and urethanes manufacture are all liable to production shut-down due to potentially hazardous chemicals and gases.

Our comprehensive range of fixed gas, portable gas and flame detection equipment allows us to provide solutions which go far beyond the measurement of flammable gases, toxic gases and oxygen concentrations.

The semi-conductor industry is one of the sectors which has recognized the benefits of Honeywell’ capability. One of the world’s largest chip manufacturers, based in Arizona and Oregon, is installing our Vertex Gas Monitoring Systems, which include some of the most advanced gas detection and analysis tools on the market.

In the field of cutting edge nanotechnology research, however, there was no appropriate product to meet the needs of a new university facility concerned with electronic and photonic devices, microelectromechanical devices and advanced materials processing.

In this case, we worked with the university to develop an innovative and unique Toxic Gas Monitoring and Control System specifically for the Nanoscale Science and Technology Facility, which required the supply, and therefore the monitoring of, a variety of gases including ammonia, arsine, diborane, phosfine, chlorine, hydrogen chloride, dichlorosilane, hydrogen, tetra-ethyl-ortho-silicate, methane, boron trichloride, fluorine, silane and oxygen.

The innovative solution involved a combination of passive, remote and extractive equipment.
